On the way to Hobart airport……

June 29, 2008

I had flown to Tassie to shoot the Tasmanian Premier and had a few hours to spare after before my flight home. After a leisurely drive up Mt Wellington to experience and arctic blast and snow, I headed to the airport and while enjoying driveway service in Cambridge I noticed a medieval knight walking across the road. I drove over and had a chat and discovered a whole world of medieval enthusiasts.

Lenny Henry in 10 minutes

June 29, 2008

UK comedian Lenny Henry was in Melbourne for a gig on TV and a Queensland Magazine commissioned me for an article supporting his show. I shot him on a Sunday, he was with me for all of 10 minutes in my setup in the closed bar of the hotel.

I used my trusty SB800 flashes and transformed the hotel’s bar to in to my temporary studio.

The basic setup

My custom made speedlight holder that can hold up to 3 flashes

This is my custom made bracket that can mount up to 3 speedlights to shoot through softboxes. This is especially useful when using Nikon’s high speed flash syncing outside.

My very handy speedlight honeycombs

David Honl, a US photojournalist, has developed light modifiers for speedlights including grids, cutters and velcro straps. Click here for his website.
